About

Built for practical bookkeeping.

Bank2QBO is a focused utility for small businesses, bookkeepers, and anyone who needs to turn a supported bank CSV export into a cleaner QuickBooks import file. It provides a normalized CSV path and an optional QBO Web Connect path for supported bank accounts.

Who operates Bank2QBO

Bank2QBO is published by John Moores through Mockup Maestro. John is responsible for the product scope, editorial decisions, and release approval. The site provides technical file-preparation guidance and does not claim professional accounting credentials. Questions, corrections, and compatibility reports can be sent through our contact page.

Why this tool exists

A CSV describes rows and columns, but it does not say which column is a posted date, whether a positive number means money in, or which account the rows belong to. Bank2QBO makes those decisions visible: you choose the fields, review normalized transactions, and select the account context before downloading.

Privacy is the architecture

The converter runs in your browser. We do not operate a transaction-processing server, store bank statements, or ask for bank or QuickBooks credentials. File selection, parsing, previewing, and QBO creation happen on the device running the browser.

What the converter does

It reads the CSV you choose, lets you map columns, normalizes supported dates and amounts, and generates a transaction identifier when a suitable one is not provided. It can download a normalized CSV for a supported manual-upload workflow or write an OFX/QBO envelope for a checking, savings, or money-market bank account when you provide the required bank and account identifiers. Credit-card activity should use the normalized CSV path. The mapper supports one signed amount column or separate debit and credit columns.

What it deliberately does not do

  • It does not connect to a bank or download transactions.
  • It does not connect to QuickBooks or modify a company file.
  • It does not categorize entries or provide accounting advice.
  • It does not promise compatibility with every bank export or software version.

How we test the converter

We test parsing and output with fictional CSV fixtures that cover quoted descriptions, comma-separated values, signed amounts, separate debit and credit columns, month-first and day-first dates, and both money-in and money-out transactions. Automated checks verify the expected transaction count, signs, normalized dates, account information, and complete output structure. These tests cannot reproduce every bank export or every QuickBooks validation rule, which is why we recommend a short controlled import before processing a full statement.

How we research and update guides

Product-specific claims are checked against first-party Intuit QuickBooks Support documentation wherever it is available. Each guide lists the sources used and the date of editorial review. Examples are fictional and are designed to explain a file shape or control step; they are not accounting entries, customer data, or a substitute for professional advice. When a menu, accepted file type, or validation rule changes, the current product documentation takes precedence.

We separate observed converter behavior from third-party product behavior. Bank2QBO can explain what it creates and test that output mechanically, but only the receiving QuickBooks product can decide whether a particular file is accepted for a particular account. We welcome reproducible correction reports that include the product and version, the exact non-sensitive error message, and a description of the source layout—never a real bank statement or credentials.

The complete testing and editorial methodology lists the automated test matrix, failure cases, example policy, authorship, and material change record. The download library exposes the fictional fixtures and control documents used to explain the workflow.

How to use it responsibly

Keep the untouched export, convert one account at a time, test a short non-overlapping period, and reconcile after import. The import preparation guide explains that control process; the troubleshooting guide helps isolate rejected dates, signs, and duplicate ranges.

Independence
